Why this must be read: Because it’s Nagi’s birthday today, and because this ‘verse deserves a wider readership.

The Foxtrot ‘verse was born in comment_fic and grows based on the prompts there. It’s a crossover with The Dollhouse, in that John is a construct. An Active that at times has had his mind wiped and another personality imprinted on it, for various reasons. This series takes off when John comes to Atlantis, and the city causes a cascade event, which means he’s aware of what’s been done to him, and aware of all the imprints currently residing in his head.

This ‘verse has everything. John pining for Rodney. Evan pining for one of the imprints. The imprints themselves fighting for a chance to come out and indulge themselves (in knitting, in dancing, in science). John hiding his true nature, until the right time comes to take down the group that operates the Dollhouses. A lot of this is bittersweet. Or downright heart-wrenching.

It’s an interesting look into what makes us who we are, especially when a person’s whole history is built on lies.

These are all shortish fics, but there are a lot of them. I promise, it’ll be easy to lose yourself in John’s world as he struggles to come to terms with his identity and his place in the world. Heads up: a lot of this is McKeller, but there is eventual McShep. And Keller is treated with respect and dignity, which is always a nice change. ::grins::

“Adele, this is insane. We have to get him a new handler immediately. He almost compromised an entire military operation trying to rescue his handler because we had to put his handler in an oblique position to avoid running afoul of DADT. Get me a female handler the same rank as him who will never be in his chain of command but will always be posted with him! or we could be looking at another composite event. Don’t ’Now Topher’ me. I know the Sheppards are massive Rossum backers, but they won't be getting their money's worth if Foxtrot gets himself killed in action, now will they? And we won't find another one who looks enough like John Sheppard to replace him.”

That was all John needed to hear. When they sent him to McMurdo, he studiously avoided any of the female majors, wary when they were nice to him, because he was a screw-up, and not a particularly nice guy. If they were being nice to him, they had ulterior motives. And then he sat in that chair, and he was offered a position on the Atlantis Expedition, and he ran. So classified and so far away that none of his family’s connections could ever find him.

I'd seen maybe one or two eps of Dollhouse back in the day, but you really don't need to know much to enjoy this. And Nagi is still adding to the 'verse, so that's a nice plus. ::grins:
