When a stranger barges unannounced into Daniel's office and begins asking him pointed questions about his life history, Daniel's immediate response - to place a call to General Hammond - is the launching point for this short tale of respect, loyalty, and friendship. Hammond's unqualified support of Daniel is rewarding, Jack is just as irrepressible as always in expressing his staunch loyalty, and Daniel's own strength of character shines through. The events in Daniel's past created by the author (to facilitate and give credence to the plot) are both interesting and believable - these are snapshots of a life, and a Daniel, I can believe in.
