Why This Must Be Read: Ah, that Quantum Mirror, it's such a useful device. One of my favourites really, because I love seeing what authors come up with as alternate universes. In this story, Hatshepsut takes a slightly different twist and creates an alternate world that is both similar and yet very different from ours, taking the time to think through the history that would've made it that way. What makes this story equally memorable and worth the read is the presence of Evil Criminal Mastermind Daniel Jackson and the good guy lawman determined to take him down, Harry Maybourne. This is an exciting story that does a great job of exploring what Daniel would be like if he used his 'powers' for evil instead of good - but without going to quite the world takeover lengths Absolute Power did.

Why This Must Be Read: This is a rare glimpse of Jack's state of mind during those long three months on Edora. I like the combination of realism and acceptance, coupled with that still-stubborn refusal to give up entirely. This feels very real for Jack, who knows all about loss and the need to keep going.


He turned his attention to the sky one last time, hoping for a miracle he knew wasn’t going to happen, then shook his head. He was stuck here for good. He might as well get used to it.
