Why This Must Be Read: The summary says: Instead of returning to the SGC after the Anubis incident, Rodney stays in Siberia, and Elizabeth chooses Kavanagh to be her chief of Science for the Atlantis Expedition. Having designed and built theDaedalus, Rodney persuades O'Neill to let them go search for the missing Atlantis Expedition, and in doing so, he finds and falls for John Sheppard.

I adore Tarlans work and this is one of one I like a lot and it has some lovely art by Valika on AO3 So, Rodney turns down the offer to go to Atlantis and John is stuck as the very cautious Sumners 2IC. I love John and Rodney’s characters here, separately, both are frustrated and their full potential is being crushed but circumstances bring them both together and then they both start to shine. This is one of those fics where Rodney isn’t CSO and the effects on Atlantis because of it and John isn’t military commander but how he could possibly have turned out if he hadn’t to shoot Sumner. It is also so refreshing to read a fic set during the first season and the start of the second.
