Have you ever thought that the episode Sunday ended wrong? That Carson should not have died? I did. You can’t kill off a loved main character just like that! Thie lovely written story by secondalto is a perfect example of how the character history can be changed. Right from the start you could see Carson was drawn to Teyla and I also saw how close Teyla and Carson were and I and always thought there were so many possibilities of them as a couple. This story tells their tale of how it should have been. It is a what if...?

Fans of the hurt/comfort genre will really enjoy this fic.

Why this must be read:

I find it amazing that this story, and the accompanies series, has not already been rec'd.  This is my all time favorite series.  This is the sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and all around enjoyable stories about when John Sheppard was turned into a Cat.

This is the first story in the Checkmate 'Verse and is from John's POV as he is turned into a cat and the ensuing pandemonium.  

Note: the full title of this fic is: A Lieutenant Colonel Walks Into a Spirit House On Two Legs And Runs Out On Four, Or, And Now, For Your Edification, An Unscheduled Spirit Walk  - but it wound not fit in the subject line.  lol

Why This Must Be Read: Here's an engaging, brand new 100K+ word AU. In Gatesmasher's world, America has a Citizen class and a Janissary class—slaves, but not chattel or a hereditary underclass. They're highly trained and educated soldiers dedicated to government or individual service, and fiercely proud of their position.

Dr. Daniel Jackson isn't wild about the system, but he agrees to take a personal Janissary—a Shield—as leader of the first expedition through the stargate. The differences between canon Stargate's military-led expedition and this AU's civilian-led one are fascinating. The reaction of the people of Abydos to Earth's slaves while they are celebrating their own freedom from oppression is even more so.

This fic ably treads the line between slave/sub kink and not flinching from the evils of slavery. Highly recommended for fans of competence kink, as well. There's wonderful worldbuilding, both on the Earth side, where all our familiar characters are just a bit different, and the Abydos side, where the characters are very much as we know them but with added depth. I hope there will be more in this 'verse.
