Why This Must Be Read: Best mirror fic. Alternate ending to 'Pont of View' that is unique and *perfect*. I cannot emphasize enough how *perfect*. Go read now! There's so much good about this story that I'm not entirely sure where to begin or end ... What I loved the most about this particular mirror fic is that it's our Jack and Daniel that come together, instead of mixing and matching with alternative Jacks and Daniels to get two that love AND can/will be together. Not to say I don't have favourites of those but this one is that much more special because it's our guys. I love the possibilities the alternate universe presents, I love Sam and Teal'c from ours and I absolutely adore the Jack/Daniel voices here. This is our pair at their best. And as typical of me, this is a happily-ever-after fic (one of the best ones out there) ... I can't say much more without giving it all away. Just read, you won't regret it. Well written. The characters are loved, and who they are together and apart, all the aspects of their lives that give them weight, is respected here. Enjoy!

Daniel is my favourite character, I believe the stories that I recommend reflect that for the most part. I like him strong and intelligent. He's a genius and by definition geniuses are brilliant across the board, they may be especially talented in one particular field but they have a fairly decent understanding of most others as well. Sideburns is one of the few authors who truly reflects the scope and breadth of Daniel's intelligence and in turn what that makes him capable of. My beef with her is that she makes him too forgiving, but isn't that partly why we love him so, the size of his heart? It's a strange dichotomy of her Daniels, it makes him see more human, that particular vulnerability, and yet less merely human because it makes him seem almost too perfect. But I digress. I've read all of Sideburns fics, most of them multiple times, so you will be seeing more of her stories recommended, this one goes first because in some ways it starts off as a Daniel character piece, from whose pov. she predominately writes. She shows us a Daniel without the SG-1, SGC, or much of anything else that we typically associate him with, and exactly how much of a survivor resides behind our quiet scholar. Her Daniel always brings me to tears, his hurts are so clearly written, in the most accepting and humble of manners that you want to hug him and fix everything, keep the big bad world away. It's because she's so good with expressing his hurting heart that it's that much more difficult to forgive Jack for being the cause, but she makes it work. And Jack here, more than in a great many of her fics, reveals the true depth of his feeling for Daniel, exactly how lacking life would be without the other and so once again you can't help but wholeheartedly root for them. I had first avoided this because I'm not particularly fond of stranded off world fics, but the world she creates, all the descriptions and her unique new character, all make this quite a lovely story to read. Also, great Sam, Teal'c and a nice Jacob appearance. Enjoy!

Why this must be read:

A powerful look at the alternate timeline from "The Last Man" where John is ruled KIA. Wildcat takes us on an emotional journey of loss and what it does to those left behind. I love how Wildcat shows us the different effects death can have on different people. Dave Sheppard is faced with some very hard truths about himself and his relationships while Nancy is touched with painful memories and powerful grief. How Wildcat portrayed Nancy is such a high point in favor of this fic. We get to see how much she really did love Sheppard; seeing how sometimes love isn't enough to hold a marriage together was a powerful side journey. Another point of awesome to this fic was the details... the deep, slow ticking of the Sheppard grandfather clock, the light breeze at the funeral that Nancy's sure John engineered, the dark shadows around Jack O'Neill in the beginning. Very powerful stuff...  And then the funeral. Wow... my chest was in pain at seeing how John's death touched his family, ex-wife, and team. Highly, highly, highly recommended!

Story Summary: Nancy and David learn that John has been declared KIA.
