Why This Must Be Read: Martha has a knack for creative horror that avoids cliches, and this fic blends smart science fiction in, as well. For one thing, this story supposes Atlantis's season 3-4 flight through the Pegasus Galaxy did not end on another Earth-like oceanic planet—planetary sciences, yay! And main plot revolves around the fallout from an SG-1 mission to help Atlantis grab ZPMs, a science-genius plan with a Schroedinger's cat fallout that changes Daniel's life forever. There's a subtle existential horror about his situation that doesn't bear thinking about too closely—so Jack doesn't; he thinks about just holding Daniel, because he still can.
