Why this must be read: I suppose it's technically an SGA fic  :S. When I first saw the episode 'The Last Man', I always wondered how they were going to break the news to Jack. It's sad, romantic, bittersweet and oh so angsty. That last scene just about killed me. It switches from present to past to make it that much more heartbreaking, and well, wow. Well-written doesn't even begin to cover it.

Why This Must Be Read: There are quite a few John-is-a-robot stories out there, but this time, it's Rodney's turn -- this is an AU version of season one (through Siege) in which Rodney is a robot built by a genius inventor (Jeannie's father). What really makes this story stand out is the seriousness with which it treats its cracked-out premise, as Rodney tries to settle awkwardly into a role as part of a social group for the first time in his life. The author avoids descending into gratuitous angst by keeping Rodney his canonically prickly self, but in between the banter and running for their lives, there's some interesting, thought-provoking stuff about prejudice and friendship and family, and the nature of what makes us human.

The author also has written a DVD commentary for the fic (highly spoilery, of course).

Why This Must Be Read: A story taking place season two (shortly after "The Fifth Race"), this story begins with Jack and Teal'c at the end of a sailing trip. And the image of Teal'c in a bright yellow sailing outfit is enough to make this fic stick in my head.

JoleneB has created a wonderful Teal'c, and a Jack whose presensce is always in the story, even though he spends most of it in the infirmary uncoscious. This is almost a team story (and there are some great moments between Janet and Sam, Sam and Daniel, Daniel and Teal'c, and Teal'c and General Hammond. I'm reccing it here because there is a great focus on Jack and Teal'c and how Jack's teaching Teal'c all about Earth (and keeping some of it a secret from Daniel and Sam, which causes them to try to figure it out) and how much Teal'c appreciated Jack. The basic story is that Jack gets hurt on a mission and then Teal'c, and the team (including Janet and General Hammond), scramble frantically to figure out how to fix him.

I will say that some of the basic facts are wrong (she has Sam's mother dying from an illness rather than the car accident), and some of the POV switches are rather awkward, but I love the story so much it doesn't detract (in my opinion).

Why this must be read: This is just so bloody poignant. The episode 2010 opened a whole new can of worms with Sam/Jack baggage and issues to deal with, and silerswench just made it that more painfully awesome in its romance. There was so much tension and chemistry and bitterness between the two, that things were bound to come to a head eventually.

Why this must be read: I fell hard for this fic. A future Jack O'Neill travels back in time to change the timeline, and you can really feel the thud of emotion that present Jack feels when he realizes the implications. Great read.
