Why this must be read: I usually don't like any fics where Pete assaults Sam- mostly because I simply can't buy a cop successfully hurting a combat trained AF Colonel. But SciFiChick simply and expertly uses Pete as a stepping stone for the growing relationship between Sam and Jack, and that first chapter in particular is perfectly executed. I especially liked the author's descriptions. Loads of Sam angst.

Why This Must Be Read: In the wake of Crystal Skull, Sam and Daniel share a quiet conversation about Nick, the nature of Daniel's childhood, and how his experiences helped shape him into the man he would become. Sam is the perfect friend here, offering acceptance and acknowledgment rather than judgment or unwanted sympathy.

I like the way Daniel's old social service records serve as the backdrop for the slow recounting of the different foster homes he knew and his mostly-good memories of the families that raised him. The fic is more bittersweet poignancy than happy fluff, but it does feel right to me. Besides, any pre-series Daniel story that doesn't immediately leap onto the abused childhood trope is definitely worth a second read! :)

Why This Must Be Read: This story is for anyone who likes a good emotional h/c story.

Within seconds of the story's beginning, Rodney begins to hallucinate. As his sanity degenerates he is forced to live through his worst fears. The characterizations are great, with John, of course, feeling his usual helplessness and frustration because of Rodney's pain.

I love, too, how the author immediately establishes John and Rodney's closeness in the opening paragraph. John's observations of Rodney and how well he can read Rodney's body language tell you almost everything you need to know. And the fact that even during his hallucinations, Rodney focuses on John's safety, as well as his own, lead so well to the inevitable conclusion of the story.

Why This Must Be Read:This is a really great Ronon POV. It's basically a pining fic, wherein Ronon realizes that he loves his team. I love pining fic, and this one is done so well. Ronon fights throughout most of the fic to keep his balance between what he feels and what he thinks is right.

Added to that is the almost subtle angst of Ronon finally finding his place and his fear of losing it because of these feelings.
