Why This Must Be Read:
Yes, I admit that for this rec I am incredibly biased but I honestly don't think that should keep me from making sure everyone gets a chance to read this story.

Everyone knows how inspiration happens: a flash and an idea is formed and you essentially have to no choice but to follow through. Well in this case, the flash was the Tiger!Team appearing through the gate in Ripple Effect and [livejournal.com profile] ivorygates met their drawn guns head on and gave us this piece of art. And while the story essentially gives us what happened in canon, it is set in Ivory's Dani'verse.

Ivory writes the story from Tiger!Cam's POV and we learn about their universe and how he (and the rest of his team) see "our" team and the rest of the SGC and their opinion matches the harshness of their universe.

But don't get me wrong, this is still Cameron Mitchell, only one distilled down by brutality from not only the universe at large but from Earth itself after Anubis attacks the planet during the Spring Surprise.

There is no holding back in this story, and there are no puppies and rainbows to soften the blow that their words inflict on a person's more genteel sensibilities. That is why you must read this. It gives you a greater appreciation of the easy time SG-1 has had over the years and points out… It could have been so much worse for them.

Why This Must Be Read:
This is actually not just a single story, but an entire series that I've come to enjoy greatly and pretty much makes me bounce in my seat when I see a new story posted.

Starting out as an AU of Continuum, Cam decides to change history for himself by leaving essentially a cheatsheet for his (for lack of a better term) younger self in order to not lose out on a chance of happiness once the timeline is back on track. (And she addresses Original!Cam's fate in a very clever way to boot.)

Just the way Slybrarian weaves canon throughout the story keeps things very fun and sexy to read without running into the area of implausibility. The dialogue and pacing are excellent and you find that you can't stop reading once you've began because even if you're familiar with the canon of both SG-1 and SGA, she somehow manages to keep you wondering what's going to happen next and how the boys will handle things.

And as an added bonus over the course of the series, she gives us very rich back-stories for both Cam and Sheppard, borrowing Cam's from [livejournal.com profile] clanmitchell, and how they've always fit together until the events of this particular story leads us into new-ish territory and that they want something, someone, more permanent in their lives.

Why This Must Be Read: One of the offerings from this year's SGA Genficathon, this story introduces us to a self-centered AU Rodney who is still on Earth and has had none of the experiences that affected him in the Pegasus Galaxy. His world is turned upside-down when he comes face-to-face with another version of himself. The second AU Rodney has seen his team killed in front of him, and in order to fix things and save them, he has to do the hardest thing of all -- convince himself to help.

This story gives us a fascinating look at the changes that have occurred in Rodney from the insufferable and selfish young scientist that we met in 48 Hours. The interaction between the two Rodneys is funny, insightful and heartbreaking, especially since both of them are very recognizably Rodney, just with completely different (and mutually incompatible) priorities.

Why This Must Be Read:
Rodney learns Athosian for Teyla. Beautiful story, and an intriguing look at the linguistics of the gate'verse. (2100 words)
snippet: Textual translation software was standard on every Lantean machine, and he fed words from his book into the laptop, sent them through a set of algorithms he'd tweaked once or twice, waited for the English meanings to pop up on his screen. Ashna, Devaat, Mehnit, Eshon, Emar, G'tare, Tasaan, Ushf'd – the words sprang up in Athosian and English; queen, queen, queen, queen, queen, queen, queen, queen. Rodney frowned and ran the command again – queen, queen; the result was the same.
