busaikko: Something Wicked This Way Comes (Default)

Hi there! I’m late, I know. . . This month I’m aiming for a seasonal feeling of the spooky, the unreal, the just plain frightening. . . stories with the element of strange magic to them.

Title: There’s No Such Thing as Daniel Jackson
Rec Category: Sheppard/McKay
Pairing: Sheppard/McKay
Category: AU, crossover, crack, Humour, SGA, SG1
Warning: Slash, apocafic
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] eleveninches

Why This Must Be Read:
I laughed myself silly. Okay, yes, this is apocafic, but it’s damn funny apocafic. Where else do you get "I wasn't complimenting you," Carter said to McKay, sounding agitated. "I was calling you a cockroach." . . . "Your mouth says 'cockroach,' but your eyes say 'sexy man beast,'" said McKay smugly. This is 43,000 words of pure cracky love, with a great plot to back up the over-the-top characterisation. The AU is well thought-out and complex, and makes a great stage for the drama. And the drama queens....

Summary: Six months after a devastating attack against Earth, Sheppard gets a promotion and a reassignment to Russia, where he encounters evil aliens, Rodney McKay, SG-1, a possible plot against him -- and a series of unexplained visions. Alternate Universe. McKay/Sheppard.
Spoilers: SG-1 5x21 Meridian, 6x01/02 Redemption, 6x21 Prophecy, 6x22 Full Circle, 7x01 Fallen, 7x21/22 Lost City, 8x19/20 Moebius, 9x01 Avalon; SGA 1x01/02 Rising, 1x08 Home, and 3x09 Phantoms.

Why This Must Be Read: A mission to another planet, post-Absolute Power, leaves Daniel in an ethical dilemma, questioning himself and that "new path" he wants to embark on, as he ponders the past of one world and the future of another, in ways that believably follow on that episode.  The author's style, pace, and flow are all eloquent and visceral in portraying Daniel's turmoil, and the characterizations spot-on in the insight, voice, and outward demeanor of both Daniel and Jack and their relationship, circa Season 4.
