Summary: none given - prompts: Cam flirting with Teyla somewhere in Atlantis, one or all of Teyla's team-mates giving Cam a veiled warning, Teyla laughing at Cam.
Link: Sing of your wonder, in a voice like thunder

Why This Must Be Read: With an excellent voice for all included characters, [livejournal.com profile] beanpot brings us one of the pairings rarely written. Cameron's and Teyla's humour and behaviour are written so very believable I could see the characters/actors acting the whole thing out in my head the whole time while reading it. The romance is not soppy, but believable. If you are in the mood for some unusual romance fic, this is for you.

Hi, my name is Shunda and I'll be reccing Teyla fic this month. I will not be sticking to any specific pairing, rating or genre. The only constant will be Teyla. I hope you enjoy.

Rec Category: Teyla Emmagan
Pairing: Teyla/John
Category: drama, angst, first time
Warning: Het
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] madkrazyghetto
Author's Website: fic tag
Link: Nightshade

Why This Must Be Read:

This is a story about what happens after the nature of Teyla and John's relationship changes, and the uncertainty and awkwardness it brings. Casey writes a very telling story where both characters are pragmatic and realistic about the consequences, and being very deliberate about their choices.

Why This Must Be Read: This ficlet is a fascinating glimpse into Teal’c’s mind, as Mitchell asks him what impelled him to first listen to Jack O’Neill in that prison cell in Chulak. Teal’c’s thoughts are drawn with simple, stark strokes, as he remembers the eyes that burned with freedom – not only Jack’s, but also Daniel’s – and his resigned bitterness at that belated recognition that freedom can only be offered, but not necessarily accepted, by his own people.

Niqaeli amazingly manages to cover Teal’c’s entire arc in this short story. Read this carefully, and savor.

If he must be around eyes that burn, he would rather they burn with freedom than with hatred.

Pairing: Jack/Rodney (also Daniel/Rodney, Teyla/John)

Why This Must Be Read:

So, it's a novella-length fic which is a sequel to someone else's fic, set in an AU of an AU, and the major slash pairing is Jack O'Neill/Rodney McKay ... wait, where are you going? Come back ...

Okay, some quick background: once upon a time, some fine people invented Pegasus B, an AU in which (among other changes) Daniel Jackson didn't get recruited by the Stargate program until the Atlantis expedition (when his on-off college ex, Rodney McKay, got him aboard). And many excellent writers came to play in this sandpit.

Then an AU of the AU was invented, in which the expedition reached Atlantis to discover that Ba'al got there first. And [livejournal.com profile] tafkarfanfic wrote the stunning (and very dark, dark like triple espresso dark) Dark Moon, High Tide -- and you need to read that first, but I'll rec it any day (warnings for character death and rape).

Really. Go read it. I'll be right here.

But in this category, I particularly want to rec [livejournal.com profile] raqs's sequel to it, Under A Broken Moon, because of its marvellous Jack characterization.

This is a story about survival after trauma, as all the characters fracture along the stress lines left by the events of the previous story, and try, with greater or lesser success, to reassemble their lives. [livejournal.com profile] raqs's Jack is one of the best, quietest depictions of untreated depression I've seen in fic, hidden under the snarky and funny and kind and tough, the person who holds everyone else together until one day he just can't hold himself together any more.

And yes, Jack/Rodney evolves -- and in this story, it comes to seem like a consummation devoutly to be wished.

If it's a freezing cold night where you are too, and a big satisfying read that mixes angst and psychological drama and action-adventure and rich, loving characterization of a huge cast seems like it might hit the spot, you couldn't do better than this double-bill.

Why This Must Be Read: It's the language, really. Rodney, who usually fires words like bullets, instead wields them like a sculptor trying to define the shape of his life and to answer the question nobody ever asked him: "Who are they to you?" It's short and beautiful and worth reading at least twice.
