Why This Must Be Read: Seems strange to be reccing a J/D fic in the Sam category, right? What drew me into this fic, what keeps me coming back to it, is Sam's journey through the story. I love exploring the darker sides and weaknesses of characters. Two of my favorite episodes are Absolute Power and Trinity. And much like Daniel and Rodney, one of Sam's weaknesses is arrogance in her abilities and her intelligence. In this fic, that weakness is exploited and Sam secretly makes what seems like a beneificial deal on the sureface, putting both SG-1 and Earth in danger. When she realizes she's made a deal with the devil, she struggles against Ba'al, her team and ultimately herself, as she tries to rectify a situation that's totally FUBAR. Like Daniel in Absolute Power and Rodney in Trinity, she walks away a little worse for wear, but knowing herself and her limitations better.

Only a few more to go, which I guess could be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective.

Why This Must Be Read: There was just no way I was going to get through my month of reccing without doing at least one Cracked!fic and here it is. [livejournal.com profile] trinityofone twist on a postcard secret where Rodney stated he was a spy, cleverly weaves bits of the Canadian National Anthem into the dialogue. Though occasionally in a somewhat disturbing way - "With glowing heart you could have seen him rise"?. Poking fun at a national stereotype (or two), the author also makes ample use of the other known Canadian character, Chuck, in this humorous little romp.

For the record, yes, Canada does have spies, and a spy agency. Oh, the plot for world/inter-galactic domination, is the work of one province - NL. The proof is in the pudding, er, story, as Rodney mentions the nation's plot only dates back to shortly after Canada joined us. ;-)

Why This Must Be Read: Imagine a Jack, Daniel and Teal'c cohabiting happily together and a really bored and irreverent Jack O'Neill having to fill out census forms for Daniel, Teal'c and himself without supervision.

Why This Must Be Read: One of Teal'c's more amazing qualities is his emotional intelligence, one of Sam's is her lack of same; the morning after of this story is full of continuing confusion and melancholy and mourning, but it's also filled with ease and comfort. This is a lovely moment between two people who really do need comfort sometimes, and a lovely characterization of both Sam and Teal'c. Feels based very solidly in the canon characters we see on screen.

Why This Must Be Read:

Hello, I'm Pouncer and I'll be recommending stories focusing on John Sheppard this month. He's my One True Character in Atlantis, so there are a surfeit of stories I love - narrowing them down will be difficult. But not as difficult as battling the Wraith *g*

So, first recommendation: The Pegasus Galaxy Presents: George Romero's Alice in Wonderland

She writes Sheppard like a real Air Force officer, and this lengthy and satisfying story delves into an incident in John's past, one that he remembers because of a Pegasus mission gone wrong. It shifts back and forth in time and reveals so much about Sheppard as a character who endures and survives.

He wakes slowly, sluggishly, and filled with dread. He can smell blood, can taste it in his mouth, and his nostrils are filled with the stink of mud and shit and he forces himself to keep still, to remember what he learned in SERE, to remember the crash course in pidgin Manobo he'd gotten on the dry runs down and back, shouted over the engine noise of the world's loudest Huey, to remember the phrases he'd had to memorize before deployment because, oh god, he'd passed out and they'd caught up to him.

"Colonel?"

It's not his rank, but his eyes snap open anyway and the dissonance jars him out of his fog. Teyla. Not there, not caught, not then. Just here and now.
