Why this fic should be read: I'm usually downright allergic to non-con, especially when there is torture involved. However, despite the fact that there is a small section of this story, told in flashback, that is pretty graphic, it is worth the discomfort to read it. This story shows Sam's inner strength and the fact that she will endure anything to protect her team and Earth's allies, as well as exactly how much her team mates and the rest of the SGC love and respect Sam, and focuses mainly on the aftermath of Sam's ordeal and the recovery process she and the team undergo. "Surviving" is well written and handles this very sensitive subject matter in a realistic and respectful way. The story doesn't have a happy, fluffy ending, but there is light at the end of the tunnel for Sam and the team. Though this story was recommended in the hurt/comfort category two years ago, it is definitely worth recommending here in the Sam Carter category.
