Why This Must Be Read: It's intense. It's angsty. It's awesome. This fic explores the Janet/Martouf team's motivation from Janet's POV. Written in first person, it gives great insight into Janet's mind. It focuses a lot on which reality is of consquence and on hope.

Why This Must Be Read: There is so much angst in this fic and that, along with perfect characterisation makes for a really great read. It also passes as a 'filler' for the end of season 8 and beginning of season 9 and shows a very believable established relationship between Sam and Cameron.

Why This Must Be Read: This long, engrossing story is chock-full of teamy goodness, deep friendship, drama, and sacrifice. It also has a healthy dose of wincingly painful violence and some pretty horrific scenes of torture, so read this one at your own risk.

And I’d say it is worth risking, because when Sylvia drops SG-1 into what seems to be Ancient Rome – complete with slavery, Caligula, and an unexpected royal ally – the reader races breathlessly from one scene to the next, rooting for our characters as they struggle to find each other and somehow get back home. Every one of SG-1 has their shining moment in the spotlight. There are victories and setbacks and deep emotional conflicts… and finally, most satisfyingly, triumph.

Why This Must Be Read: This story was just posted yesterday for the J/D Ficathon 2007, but I was so taken with the story I wanted to recommend it now while I had a category it fit. It's a melancholy tale of the aftermath of a mission gone wrong. A flawless weaving of the two canons and characters. A gentle understanding of the importance of Daniel to Jack is shown to the reader.

Link: One Little Taste and That’s It

Why This Must Be Read: This lovely ficlet includes the Sha’re that lives inside my head – practical and mischievous and content, confident in her marriage and her place in Daniel’s life. She’s sassy and funny, and she treats Daniel like a human being, not the savior of Abydos.

That’s an awful lot to pack into less than 350 words, but Tripoli manages it with style. This is a beautiful, wistful glimpse into Daniel and Sha’re’s life on Abydos; because, as Tripoli writes, “When it's four years later and you've got her dead body on the ground in front of you, you better have something that made it all worthwhile.”

[For another glimpse of Tripoli’s Sha’re, try this intense drabble of hers: Control, at Thirty]
