Why This Must Be Read: Lorne is one of the many wonderfully fleshed-out secondary characters we've gotten on the Stargate series. In this story, written from Elizabeth's point of view, he and Elizabeth are obviously attracted to each other, but her position in relation to his keeps them apart, as well as the private fears that Elizabeth hides. The story of how they develop from attraction to relationship includes snark, emotion, and coping mechanisms. In the unrealistic setting of Atlantis, the characters remain very human, and that's one of the things I adore about this story. (Note: In this fic, the author named Lorne "Josh," since this was written long before his name was given out even semi-canonically.)

Why This Must Be Read: In this lovely friendship fic, Jack and Daniel sit and talk over a game of chess sometime in Season Seven. There's one little twist, though: this isn't Colonel Jack O'Neill, but his clone from Fragile Balance.

Over the course of their conversation, we recognize that Daniel's close friendship with Jack hasn't changed, despite the huge differences in their lives. There's great Jack and Daniel banter and humor, of course. But there's also insight and understanding, and the quiet undercurrent of pain from two people who aren't quite what they were and never can be again.

Any Tallulah Rasa fic is sure to be a pleasure, and this one is no exception.

Why This Must Be Read: The team camps out on an overnight mission and it's just the four of them relaxing at the end of the day and bickering like any other family with topics like John's thing about bugs, Teyla's reading material of choice and mocking Rodney. It's a great team story with excellent team characterization and a nice peek into the calmer side of life in Pegasus.

Why This Must Be Read: A fascinating take on John Sheppard's family history as it alternates between his life in Pegasus and flashbacks to his childhood and his relationship with his parents. It's a really wonderful story that explores John's background, his experiences with ascension and the Ancients and how this all ties together for John a lot more than he thought.

Why This Must Be Read: What if there were dragons in the Stargate universe? And what if they were being used along with modern technology by the military? Crossing over with the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik, this story is a twist on John's introduction in Rising in which he isn't just a pilot, he has a dragon dubbed Knievel, which makes Jack a little bit cranky and makes Rodney all sorts of uncomfortable because it's a dragon.
