Why This Must Be Read: This is arguably a Daniel story since it's told from his PoV, but I love the perspective it gives us on Rodney. The story places us in Antarctica between SG-1's season 7 and 8 and before the Atlantis expedition, where Daniel is nominally in charge and happily working on translating the Ancient database and Rodney is in charge of the science team trying to figure out how the base works.

Daniel didn't meet Rodney in either of his previous appearances since he was in Russia for "48 hours" and non-corporeal for "Redemption" but he's undoubtedly heard Sam's opinions on the arrogant astrophysicist. In between watching the two of them alternate between joy and frustration at unlocking the mysteries in Antarctica [livejournal.com profile] teaphile gives us a great look at Daniel figuring out how Rodney ticks.

Why This Must Be Read: Chelle describes this as "A few free moments set during the Siege I", and in it Elizabeth and Teyla find some comfort in each other amid the chaos of that episode. I especially adore the last few lines.

Why This Must Be Read: Teyla giving Elizabeth stick-fighting lessons! There's definitely not enough of that in fic, and in this one Elizabeth is trying to keep her feelings for Teyla from slipping out. But since Teyla's Teyla, she gets it, and tells Elizabeth that life's too short to turn away from what you want.

Why This Must Be Read: Really, I'm not reccing this just because I did the beta. One of the things I love most about Havoc's AUs is that whatever she does with Elizabeth in the AU, it always seems to fit really well with canon Elizabeth Weir. In "Schism", which is a Babylon 5 crossover, Elizabeth's a member of the PsiCorps but she's not exactly loyal to them. There's a double conversation in here between Elizabeth and Teyla, spoken and psychic, that is fantastically done.

Why This Must Be Read: I really liked this look into how Atlantis and the expedition, especially John kind of got along, especially how it slowly turns to a slightly more darker tone as it progresses and we start to see that maybe John Sheppard is a little more off-kilter than we thought. I really love how the darker tone just slowly builds up from the earnestness of pre-Atlantis John to the enigmatic John that's maybe a little whacked in the head as his relationship with the city progresses. It's a really interesting story to read.

A New Path

Why This Must Be Read: Well, I thought I should give you some non-smut fic, considering my prior recs. Of course, I couldn't avoid a few references to sex. ;) I blame it on the guys being too hot for their own good.

This fic is not about Teal'c and it's not a bout Daniel, but rather the dynamics between them. They get stranded on a planet and have to find their way back using the few clues in Goa'uld they can find.

I love the style in which [livejournal.com profile] ankhsign wrotethis fic, it's light and soft and the fic just flows perfectly.

Why This Must Be Read: A fun crossover in which Rodney McKay and Grant Jansky (David Hewlett's character in Traders) are identical cousins. Starting with John and then Carson, we learn more about Grant and Rodney as the boys spend more time together and with a dramatic twist of events, Grant ends up joining the Atlantis expedition as another civilian consultant. There's great characterization of the guys and it has its funny and poignant moments. Although it technically is still a work in progress (the author is currently adding in new chapters of Grant experiencing Atlantis and meeting the other members), this story can stand alone by itself as it's mainly Grant being introduced to John and Carson and how Rodney plots to have his cousin join him on Atlantis. It's a wonderful read.
