Hi, I'm Aurora, and I'll be rec'cing "Gen" in this last month of the year, which is my favorite type to read. The recs will most likely be all SG-1 related, with strong emphasis on the team interaction and canonesque characters (I'm all about the teamy goodness of our intrepid heroes). Hope you enjoy the tales as much as I did!

Rec Category: GEN

Pairing/Characters: No pairings; team friendship; George Hammond; SG-1; Sha're; Skaara
Category: Hurt/Comfort; Drama; Angst
Warning: references canon character deaths in passing

Why this should be read:
First, this story is why I chose to rec this category (even if it *is* the busy holiday season).

To describe this fic is simple enough. It recounts several occasions of an annual event on Abydos--the festival celebrating the defeat of Ra.

What makes this special is the lyrical quality to the tale. Each year the celebration is different...most notably by the people who are present, and those who are absent. Each time it is more noticeable how the story transforms from history to legend. The descriptions and feelings of SG-1, Shau'ri/Sha're, Skaara, Kasuf, even Hammond give a personal touch to the far-reaching tale.

It is a wonderful tribute to the people of Abydos, and the heroes who helped free them from the evil god Ra. The end made me mourn the Abydonians' loss all over again.

Rec Category: GEN

Pairing/Characters: None; team friendship; SG-1; Bill Lee; Janet Fraiser; POV (Jack O'Neill and Daniel Jackson alternating)
Category: Action/Adventure; Hurt/Comfort; Drama; Angst
Warning: mild language/violence
Author on LJ: Author not on LJ

Link to Story: Fostering Relations

Why this should be read:

It's a fantastic team adventure. All of the characters' voices are clear and distinct in this Season Seven tale. The banter and wit that makes us love our SG-1 team is here in razor sharp form.

Fans of Janet Fraiser and Bill Lee (like me!) are in for a special treat because the author treats these characters with the same care and distinctive voice as she treats the main cast. Siler and Hammond fans won't miss out either.

Canon events are seemlessly interwoven but the adventure itself is original. A friendly but cautious religious native culture with nothing on the surface that could be of interest...but scratching a bit farther in his translations with the priests, Daniel encounters knowledge of Telchak and his device...and after an accident, one of the characters becomes injured...more would be telling. ;-)

This may possibly classify under the genre of KidFic, but PLEASE those who usually run screaming from the concept (believe me, I am usually one of you) should still give this a chance, because Aelfgyfu gives it an awesome twist. Fans of the genre should also hopefully be happy for the comfort line which is sweet, but not overly sentimental. Oh, and even MacKenzie gets a fairer shake than what often happens in fandom.

Hurt, comfort, angst, action...and through this extensive (long) rich story, each character maintains a strong and believable perspective.

Rec Category: John Sheppard/Teyla Emmagan
Pairing: John/Teyla
Category: het, drama, character study
Warning: not that I'm aware of, unless very mild angst counts
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tielan
Author's Website: fanfic
Link: And In That Dreaming Weep

Why This Must Be Read: [livejournal.com profile] tielan is probably one of the best known John/Teyla writers and her stories involving the two are just lovely gems that take a peek in their relationship, whether it's an episode tag, mission stories, or AUs (or "crackfic" as she seems to have dubbed those).

One of the reasons that I enjoyed this story is that there is more to John Sheppard than we know and Teyla is usually the one who has seen that side of John, given that some of his more personal conversations or situations are with Teyla, like in "Phantoms," "Sateda," "Letters from Pegasus" and other episodes. And this story seems to play into that, as she gets a glimpse into his psyche on an overnight mission and learns a bit about his past and why he sometimes acts the way he does. It's a very nice read and one of my favorites written by [livejournal.com profile] tielan.

*waves* You know me as comm owner, but I'm making a move back into some rec'cing as well. For my return, I'm going to be rec'cing Jonas Quinn this month. Jonas lured me to the series, so it seemed only appropriate that he brought me back into rec'cing.

Rec Category: Jonas Quinn
Pairing: Jonas Quinn/Samantha Carter
Category: Romance, Post Fallout, Het
Warning: None, unless I should mention Jack cooking! *g*
Author on LJ: Not that I know. If she is, please let me know!
Author's Website: I'm not sure she has one.
Link: Where the Heart Is

Why this must be read: Okay, I have to admit that while I'm not the biggest fan of Samantha Carter, I absolutely love the interaction she has with Jonas. When Drea presented this fic as a type of closure for Jonas, I couldn't help but fall in love with it. She writes some of the best Jonas-fic out there. It is so easy to read the affection she has for this character, and she has a wonderful insight into him.

This story is post Fallout and is just a nice little look into how it could have been. The romantic in my could not resist it!
