Why This Must Be Read:

[livejournal.com profile] _minxy_ uses Teal'c's outsider perspective to give an insightful and painful take on the changing relationships within SG-1 over the years, and on Teal'c own reserve and isolation within the group. As well as an interesting fic in its own right, this can be read as a meta riff on years of fanon and pairing wars (and the notable shortage of het or slash involving Teal'c):

He walked the perimeter at night and sat by a fire and thought of the warm hands of a warrior and the cold hands of his wife. Of the difference between the comfort of one who was familiar and a new subordinate. Of fires and stars and tents and missions long buried in shame and comforted in comrades.

What happens when Daniel and Teal'c have free time on their hands? They get into trouble of course.

Why This Should Be Read:

This is another story I read several years ago and marked it in my notes as a favorite. Daniel and Teal'c take a trip to town when Sam and Jack are checked into the infirmary after a mission. They manage to get themselves into a little trouble along the way. After witnessing a murder things take a turn for the worst but soon become right again. There are some good Teal'c/Daniel friendship moments in the story and some interesting plot twists and turns. The story is well worth the read. Enjoy!

Warnings: This spoils for the "Siege" arc.

Why This Must Be Read:

One: The Rodney-voice was so good I could hear it. I don't care how clever the plot, if you don't have the characters, it just doesn't work for me. A believable character voice always sells me. Two: The really human foibles and needs we see here, along with what are some pretty believable insecurities, that together make the whole thing feel oddly believable. Add to that the little old lady, and I was lost. Kylie, you had me at "It interferes with my hearing aid!". Three: Kylie writes characters like people, with give and take and heart.

Her Summary: On Earth, after 2.01 "Siege 3," McKay stops by Sheppard's on his way to Canada.

Why This Must Be Read:

Rodney, for all his grumping, has a pretty nifty, offbeat sense of humour. This story highlights that in a way that is very natural and real ... it's light without farce, and it has Rodney's inner termagant popping up without being a caricature of him. Add to that the fact that Otter has a deft touch with description, and I'm in love. Movement, touch, sound and sight are all brought into a being, making this story so wonderfully easy to visualize. It's the C-story that got cut for time before going to air.

Her Summary: Getting by in a world of finite resources. More or less.
