Why this must be read:
The Weather Outside is a great Sam adventure fic. It isn't overtly shippy, there's no declarations of undying love or anything like that, and it's one of the few mostly gen Sam fic out there.
Doc weaves a tale with SG-1 and an OC, who just happens to have a crush on Jack and finds the friendship between Jack and Sam to be a threat. And so, she kills Sam. Or so they think.
About halfway through Sam is thought to be dead but is really marooned on an alien planet that is going through a period of seismic instability. As she struggles to survive, the folks at home try to reconcile themselves to her death.
Eventually, in a lovely team 'all for one' moment, the boys decide to go and either recover their friend's body or bring her home.
Weather is full of adventure, fun, jokes, angst and some wonderful poetic justice

Why this must be read: For the most part, this fandom creates about one good gen Sam fic a year. Sometimes less. This is one of them. SG-1 is exploring a planet that is seismically unstable. During the course of this, Sam gets left behind and literally buried alive.
While underground, and while the SGC is trying to find out if she's dead or alive, Sam happens across something truly fantastic, a complete buried Hatak ship. Of course, it's also complete with a goa'uld in a Sarcophagus…who'd love a new host.
There's great drama and angst and even one of those 'moment of truth' moments. (and no, not a 'I can't live without you' one) Sam is portrayed very well, strong but vulnerable, tenacious but far from perfect.
It's a fic that I drag out about once a year and re-read, just to enjoy it all over again.

Why this must be read:
The show is famous for ignoring the fallout of events that happen to the characters. To me, the whole Nightwalkers/Abyss/Frozen thing is one huge weeping sore between Jack and Sam. This fic deals with that a bit. With how Sam feels after Nightwalkers, and how she feels seeing Jack after Abyss. It's very much friendship and not relationship, but it is nice to read a fic that tackles that issue.

Why this must be read: This fic is set post New Order, as the kids are on their way home and Jack and co realizes that Sam's time with Fifth wasn't all wine and roses. It's not long but it is another of those sweet warm friendship moments that are so much fun to read
You can see just how much they care for each other.

Why this must be read: This fic is based on the premise, what if Sam got to choose someone to bring back from the dead. Captured by aliens, she is given a choice, bring back her mom, Shau'ri, Drey'ac or Charlie. While the author has a habit of cranking up the angst then not being able to sustain it, she does a decent job in this one. You actually feel the agony of choosing which of her friends' loved ones to bring back and how the stress of that decision would effect her. It's also a look into Sam Carter. How she comes to her decision, how she deals with her decision and yes, eventually an alternate universe.
