Why This Must Be Read: I loved how this story portrayed the beginnings of Jack and Daniel's friendship. It's told from Daniel's point of view, as though an entry to his journal, but it feels more like Daniel is telling the story to a friend--to us, the readers. While I usually love missing scene fics or episode tags, I felt that ETS did an especially good job weaving her story around the events of Children of the Gods. ETS captured the feeling from Children of the Gods and extended that in a way that I felt was a very possible way the friendship could have developed to what we saw in other episodes of season 1 and beyond. Jack seems perfectly in character as he was in early season 1, and Daniel...well, I could see that this is how Daniel could have seen himself and it really worked for this story. I "felt" Daniel and saw Daniel in the scenes he described. This isn't a warm-fuzzy, feel-good story, but at the same time it's not a story of despair. Daniel is a little sad and feels angst over recent events, but he's also filled with the hope of early season 1 Daniel. This is a story of Jack reaching out a hand of friendship to Daniel and Daniel trusting him enough to accept it.
