Summary: For Daniel, love is hard to figure out. For Jack, it's not hard at all.

Why read it: A case could be made, I suppose, that this isn't a Jack/Daniel fic, that it isn't even slash… quite, but there's no doubt that it's a love story and I have no hesitation in reccing it in this category. I passionately love this fic. This fic took up residence in my brain and dug itself in deep. Most of all, this is a look at Jack – the man and the colonel – like we're rarely privileged to see him either on the show or in fic – strong, competent, mature, even wise, and still entirely, authentically Jack, with all his flaws and complexities.

Why read it: Jack O'Neill is surprised by a phone call informing him that he has a 23-year-old son named Xander Harris, the product of a casual liaison he'd all but forgotten. Sounds like a cliché, doesn't it? Don't worry, it's anything but; this is the best Stargate/Buffyverse crossover I've read to date. The writing is excellent, characterizations are rich and authentic, and the slow, uneasy, uneven progress of the relationship between Jack and Xander rings true.
