WHY READ?: This almost doesn't belong in the het section; 95% of the story is actually firmly in the gen region. The only thing that pushes it over is the last 5% which deals with the relationship between miniJack and miniSam - and features some very edgy, hot sex. A continuation of both 'Monkey Screaming' and 'Mirror Image' by the author, this story explores the regrouping of the SG1 mini-clones as a team - and more, as a family - after the events of 'Mirror Image' and Jack's destructive attempts to reconnect with his team as just friends.
Read it for the moments of insanity: the idea of the quartet buying a run-down property off an SGC family so they'll have enough money for the things they really want to do; the moment when a boy who's got a crush on Sam looks at Jack and Teal'c and figures they're screwing - thanks to Daniel's mischevous misdirection; the vision of various SGC personnel all pitching in to help clean up the place thanks to Lieutenant Hailey who's got an alien toxin in her bloodstream that acts like fifteen cups of Daniel's coffee; the vision ofTeal'c getting into home decorating magazines and planning how to decorate the house. (It works - you don't think it will, but it does!)
Read it for the moments of truth: Jack telling Daniel that they're not moving, they're changing locations; Sam meeting the father of one of her fellow football players whose car they fixed, and him instantly recognising her competence; Teal'c yearning to do something for his fellow Jaffa on Dakara, and choosing to breed horses; and all their reactions to the photo album put together for Daniel to really show him that SG-1 is family and not just a team.
Read this for so many reasons other than the Sam/Jack relationship, and savour those moments.
If you like Sam/Jack, then enjoy the ending; if you don't, then stop at the party where General O'Neill points all the crusaders in the same direction and take a bow. Either way, I don't believe you'll have wasted your time.
This is SG-1 at their finest and most elementally connected: if you're a true fan of the team - all four characters - then I can guarantee you'll love this story about growing, changing, accepting, and fighting for who you are and what you can have when life seems to have short-changed you in other ways.

Date: 2005-08-18 04:28 am (UTC)But I read the first section of Monkey Screaming" (http://wintersong0.tripod.com/jinxingfate/monkeyscreaming.htm), then skimmed the second section, the debriefing with MacKenzie and Harper. And I have to say, my idea of gen is not... that. To me, this is Jack/Sam implied or "pre-het" if you will. Not saying the fic isn't fun and that there isn't great team interaction. But it's not gen in the sense of the team being "just friends", which is how I would define gen.
Again, not trying to make judgments -- I just found it interesting that two fic readers in the same fandom would approach fanfic categories and labels in such different ways. But I suppose this is why I almost never go to Heliopolis. :)
Oh wow. I am deeply stupid.
