This is a Jack/Daniel fic, and so much more. It is a beautiful, heartbreaking, uplifting look at Daniel’s journey through grief following Sha’uri’s death. JDJunkie has created a rich world and culture and fantastic original characters, all of whom play a role as Daniel analyzes his life and his place on the team.
There are wonderful interactions between Daniel and his team members, as they offer their love and support in their own unique ways. And, as always, the love and affection between Jack and Daniel, whether as friends or more, makes this a joy to read.
Excerpt:
Daniel swallowed hard, waiting for his breathing to even out. The dream left him bereft and aching every time. It was a familiar pain. He turned onto his side, facing Jack. He couldn’t be certain, but he felt as though Jack was watching him, silently offering what support he could, respecting his privacy and grief. There was a bone-deep comfort in knowing he was there.
“I’m okay,” Daniel said quietly into the darkness. “I’m okay.”
He wondered who he was trying to convince.
