Why This Must Be Read: This fic just breaks my heart with it's grief and longing for what can never be again. Kimberlite's stories are among my most favourites anyway, but this one *sighs* The characters are treated with deep respect and story that could go so much further is cleverly wound around them. Take a moment to enjoy this journey with John and Cam.
Excerpt:
There was warmth all along the side of his body. It felt nice. John shifted, trying to get closer, rubbing against the heat. His face was pressed against cloth and skin. John inhaled, the spicy scent warm and welcoming. The tip of his tongue traced against the smooth-rough heat, his lips following gently. The world shook.
"Hey, John...it's morning."
John blinked awake, freezing when he realized he was nestled against Cam, face buried against his neck, hard cock pressing against his thigh. He pulled away, trying for casual. "Sorry, man."
"No problem." Cam shifted back, looking at John intently.
John tried to keep his face neutral, to not ask the question he already knew the answer to, but Cam was reading him, seeing through his walls to the truth. He gathered himself to leave but was stopped by Cam's hand on his arm.
"I'm really sorry, John."
"It's all right." John gave Cam a reassuring smile, hoping it reached his eyes.
"If you were a woman, you'd be perfect." Cam groaned. "Crap, that was a really stupid thing to say."
John made a face. "And yet, there's a betting pool in Pegasus for who's going to be the first to be gender switched."
Cam smiled sadly and squeezed John's arm. "Pancakes before the game?"
John nodded. "Sure."
