Rodney McKay is John Sheppard’s right hand man, PA, assistant, all rolled into one and he is in love with his boss. However Rodney has hidden his crush and remains professional throughout. When the arrangemenst for a companion for the evening of the company ball goes wrong, Rodney has to step into play and be John’s date for the night.

"This can't be happening," Rodney said, staring at the woman in front of him.

"This is the right address, ain't it? Are you John Sheppard?" she asked around the chewing gum in her mouth.

"No," Rodney said emphatically. "And no, you're wrong here. There are no words in the history of mankind for how wrong you are."

"This is the Grand Hotel at Park Lane. And this looks like the ballroom to me," she said, as if Rodney were a bit stupid.

"Right. But you're still wrong. What do I owe you for tonight?" Rodney asked, wanting to deal with the worst problem first, which was to get rid of her.

"Three hundred dollars," she said, throwing back her dyed hair.

Rodney didn't honestly think that that was what she earned for a few hours in general, but he was willing to pay it to make her leave. He handed over the cash. "Take the back entrance, and don't talk to anyone."

She put the money in her cleavage and made a zipping motion over her mouth. God, she was a walking cliché of a hooker. Then she thankfully disappeared around the corner, and Rodney called security to make sure she actually left the premises.
