Summary: This story is an AU story in which Sam and Jack start dating before either joins the stargate program. It focuses on their family life, but alien and alien viruses are highly involved in that family life. Starts mid 1980's.

Why This Must Be Read: Because this is a well-written AU and that's enough. Seriously, guys, this author understands that if you change one big event in the series, you will end up changing a ton of stuff. This is a Charlie-is-alive! story that doesn't just say 'oh, Charlie survived the shooting incident'. Also, there's a lot of development in the relationship between Jack and Sam - they meet much younger, and go through a lot of stuff together - and all the SG-1 and later Atlantis gang show up. Also, the stargate program starts much earlier than in the show.

It must be said that this fic has a companion, Belonging, that can be found in Nadie's page. It's also a great story, focused on Daniel/Sha're. Belonging starts much earlier than Instead, when Daniel Jackson is still a child; his parents die and he is adopted by Catherine Langford. I recommend reading both stories because they are both pretty good.
