Aliens make John and Rodney do it (get married) in this lighthearted tale. Rodney's not happy about the situation until a debate in their marital bed brings a revelation.
Excerpt:
The ceremony had been a brief, painless affair. They had said some words, drunk some sweet tasting punch, and allowed the guests to spray some kind of perfume on them. It’s when they realize that this apparently means they’re now married according to the Shaleen’s customs that things become a little difficult.
“I cannot believe this! I absolutely cannot believe this!” Rodney snaps when they’re left alone while Teyla speaks with the matriarch.
“You know, I’d appreciate it if you’d stop sounding so insulted by the whole idea.” John snaps in return.
“What kind of people,” Rodney says, pointedly ignoring John, “think that marriage is the way to seal a trade agreement? This makes even less sense than ‘Our Mrs. Reynolds’.”
“Than what?”
“Oh, it’s an episode of Firefly.” Rodney says with a wave of his hand. “The captain accidentally marries a conwoman, and - !”
John cuts him off abruptly. “Never mind! I don’t think I want to know the details.”
