ADMIN: Big Changes

As I have said, 2012 is going to see big changes for the comm. The fandom for Stargate is changing because nothing new is being fed to viewers and writers, so creative energies start to lag. It's sad, but a natural process when new episodes are no more. We're not giving up on the comm, not by a long shot. But we also realize that getting in new rec'cers, even with over 1000 people in the comm, is a bit unrealistic. People can call it how they want, but it isn't HOW we have the comm set up. It's worked for years. We've brought in new rec'cers for years with our set up. It works. It works for numerous other fic rec communities. What we're up against now is the fact that we have no NEW input from producers and show execs... no new episodes of Stargate to feed fanfic writers. So the fandom will start to shrink.

So here is what we're going to do.

We're giving sg_fignewton a promotion. Since she has been the IT rec'cer for so long, we're making her a permanent rec'cer. She'll rec in two or three categories, whatever she wants, a month. Her only 'restrictions', if you want to call them that, is that she'll use the categories we've already set out within the community. So each month, she'll surprise us with her categories of choice and give us her recommendations. She's been a loyal and dependable rec'cer for years, and this is the best way I can think of to reward her for her years of devotion to the community.

As for other rec'cers... medie will put up a post in the comm every month. You want to rec, you go to that post and put your name there. You tell her what you want to rec. First come, first served. Your choice has to be within the categories already set out within the community. We can't make it any easier than this. Mostly, my reasoning is making this easier on medie. She spends a considerable amount of her time working for this comm and it bears little fruit and even less gratitude. She works very hard for the comm, and I'm not sure that people understand exactly where this comm would be without her. So I'm doing this to make it a bit easier on her.

medie will post at the end of the month for volunteers for rec'cers. You will volunteer on THAT POST with the category you want to rec. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED.

Changes take affect with the March sign up for rec'cers. If you have already signed up for a category for March, just wait for the March post and sign up there. medie will NOT be checking the March requests.

Thanks to all the reccers and especially the mods. I've only done recs a couple of times—enough to know that it isn't easy! I am grateful for those who still do it (and hope someday I'll be able to do a month again, but no promises).

I, too, want to thank EVERYONE who recs here, and especially to all of you who are or have been, mods. I discovered this place many years ago and it has been a favorite ever since. With the clear categories, I just ignore any that are not to my taste, and try those that are.

I have especially enjoyed SG Fig Newton's recs for all these years--she is amazing and such a huge boost for good fan fiction (in gen, or course! and I do read S/J, but I love gen and team and it's been great to find so many good ones I'd never have found otherwise, all thanks to Fig!)

Thanks again, so much, to all of you. I don't rec because I rarely find a story on my own--I come here to find them! Your efforts have been very much appreciated by me and I'm sure a lot of others--I'm sorry we do not say it more often!
