Why this must be read:

Oh my heart... I'm still sweeping up the pieces and trying to superglue 'em back together. Kodiak Bear has an absolute talent for writing fics that make my emotions go all over the place and my heart just bleed (but in a good way). Rodney dies on a mission and John has to deal with the fact that he couldn't save him. The whole letter motif, with John trying to write Jeannie and Rodney writing him, made this fic have even more emotional appeal. How do you tell a family that their loved one is gone? How do you say goodbye in written format? Very touching... At least there's a ray of light at the end for the readers. It's not all dark shadows! Kodiak's way of bringing about all of us fangirl's salvations is very unique and smile-inducing, in my humble opinion. :)

I’m sorry to have to tell you this in a letter, but you know how the military can be

Sheppard stared at his pen, paused in mid-script, when he realized that no, Jeannie McKay probably didn’t know how the military could be, because it hadn’t been her working in conjunction with the military all these years.

Angrily, he flung the pen against the desk, and crumpled the sheet of paper, before tossing it in the corner to join the numerous others that hadn’t been good enough either, for one reason or another.

And it wasn’t the uncontrolled sobs causing his shoulder’s to shake, as he folded his arms around himself, reflexively trying to hold on to something
