Archeology

Why this must be read:

A fascinating look at early SG1 with Teal'c still trying to find his bearings after betraying the only world he had known and finding a new place among the Tau'ri. There are many points of WIN in this fic that it's hard to pinpoint exactly what I loved about it. I loved Daniel explaining archeology to Teal'c, Teal'c examination of Earth rituals and mindset, and that final sense of hope at the end as the team goes up the ramp on another mission. I enjoyed this look at early Stargate, and know you will too.

Story Summary: The Tau'ri seem not to mind having more questions than answers.

Teal'c shakes his head. "I know little of their construction," he says. "The Goa'uld are reluctant to provide the Jaffa with the means to arm themselves."

"I can see that," she says. "It's not like I've ever built a machine gun, either, but in theory I could."

"The ones who build your weapons," Teal'c says. "They are no threat because they support your authority?"

"Well, sort of, but it's not like we're their leaders or something," Captain Carter says. "We have a civilian government, the military is just part of ..." She trails off, turning up her hands. "Maybe you should ask General Hammond to explain about that, it's a little complicated."

"I will do so," Teal'c says. There are so many things to ask, every question leading to a dozen more, and he has been allowing himself to indulge his curiosity as he has not done since he was a child. It is all too easy among these people, who are constantly asking why and why must it be and why should we not as if they were not dangerous questions.
