Why This Must Be Read: This is an episode tag for Scorched Earth. If any episode needed a tag badly, it was this one. I never liked the way things were left with the team, and especially with Jack and Daniel. This story attempts to give some insight into what Daniel was thinking and why. It gives some closure to that episode in a way that I liked. This fic makes me smile.

This is not a traditional friendship fic because it doesn't feature Jack and Daniel together for the entire story, but it does give some interesting insight into their relationship and it ends with Jack and Daniel together. It's told from the point of view of other characters watching the scene, but it's Daniel who gives voice to explain the why of what happened in Scorched Earth.

Oh, geez, that was good. Coming right after the one *I* just recced as a tag for Scorched Earth, this is a welcome change...and you're right, it put a big ol' smile on my face. I could just see it going down like that, too! Great rec!

No, no, I'm glad you did. Most of the SE tag fic is terribly angsty (not that this is *bad*, mind you...:D) and I don't think I've ever seen one that left me with a smile. It's fantastic, and I love the contrast reading the two so close together.

Maybe we should do theme recs...:D

I'm so glad you recced this! I love this fic. It reads exactly like a scene from the show, one that should have been in the show. This resolved all the angsty unsettledness I felt at the end of that episode.
