Why This Must Be Read: Without giving too much away, this is one of my favourite go to fics for my happy future fic fix. What distinguishes it? I felt there was honesty and integrity to the characters, that things didn't just fall into place without the expected struggle and learning curves, considering the pair, but there wasn't unbearable angst either, and that it was a proper love story. It felt like a true Jack/Daniel journey, both of them meeting the challenges of being together in their own distinct way. I don't often enough come across fics where Jack or Daniel aren't sacrificed so that the other may come off as the 'strong' one or the more heroic one, so this was doubly enjoyed for that distinction alone. I loved these characterizations because none of their hiccups were grating, the flaws were part of being human rather than defining them. They were just easy to love, very easy, and though I love the pair I don't always feel Jack deserves Daniel, I had no such qualms here. And of course there's story line and plot and all that jazz. :) Additionally, I like Sam, I love big-sis-Sam, but a lot of the time I just want to deck her. Then there are stories like this one, where you see the brilliant, kind, strong woman/officer that initially drew us to her, that made her a good fit with Daniel as her intellectual counterpart and sibling, and a good second in command and friend to Jack. That alone, the respect with which all the characters were written was enough for a look see but the deft way that the getting together and figuring out how to learn to be together, with additional storyline, reeled me in, and has had me back for a re-read a few times. How much more can I say except ... go read! :)

Date: 2011-03-14 02:24 pm (UTC)As for not usually being a J/D slash girl, I can understand that, not having started out as one myself. I began catching SG1 eps during the day, I worked nights, and found that SPACE aired the series twice, once in the morning and again in the evenings, but they were from different seasons. I think the morning ones were later on in the series, perhaps even close to Daniel's ascension or shortly after, can't quite recall now. Anyhow, what drew me into the show to begin with, other than fulfilling my ancient history fix, was the friendship between Jack and Daniel, and when I began to see the difference in their interactions between older and more recent episodes I kinda felt sad and so went looking for fic that might fix that little problem for me. Fanfic net has quite a few really good friendship fics and big brother-kidDaniel fics. I only started reading slash once I ran out of those, mind you I didn't look elsewhere, and then there really was no going back. I started going all over the net trying to find more J/D fic, I came across Area 52 quite late into the addiction and missed plumtuckered on the first go around, I think I actually stumbled across her stories only before Christmas and quite by accident, but I am ever so grateful for having done so. A lot of the stories I really like go along this vein. A mature and deep friendship, a love that has no barriers, and an honest respect for each other that keeps them from causing intentional hurt.
Sorry, I'm just rambling now. I really love the pair and am just excited that you're joining the fold, or at least taking a proper look see. I'll do my best to rec more of the same kind of fiction. Though, truth be told, there aren't any quite like hers. :)
