Why this must be read:

A very unique take on the "Ancient device" plot type. Rodney touches something he shouldn't have, and now everyone sees him differently. They see what attracts them or comforts them the most. Yet, Sheppard sees him just the way he is, scars and all. I really like how this fic explores the idea that Sheppard likes Rodney for himself, with no embellishments or add-ons. You'll just want to huggle Rodney after reading how his self image takes a beating, thinking how everyone is going to react when the device wears off and they see him for who he really is. At least he's got his John for when that happens. The man who loves him for himself, sarcasm, slight pudge, and all. :)

Story Summary: John grinned. "So McKay's attractive to everyone?"

"Dr. McKay?" Teyla said uncertainly, and John realized with a start that Ronon and Teyla were both staring at Rodney, wide-eyed. "You do not look yourself."

Rodney raised an eyebrow at her. "I do not look myself? What does that mean? I'd like to see you spend three hours in a hole and still come out looking all Teyla, warrior princess." He rubbed self-consciously at his hair, sending a shower of dust into the air.

"We were in there for half an hour, McKay." John said.

"Yes, well." Rodney stopped, shoving his laptop into his pack and hoisting it over his shoulder. "Can we go? Now that we're presumably done mocking my disheveled appearance?"

He took a step forward, and Teyla took a step backwards, nearly crashing into John. "I...I am unsure of what is happening."

"Something's wrong," Ronon said from beside him, pulling his gun from his holster and pointing it at Rodney. "That's not McKay."

Aww, one of my favorites in this fandom. I was always so disappointed that trakkie never wrote anything else in this fandom (or any other iirc).

Wow, I didn't know this was the sum total of all her writings. I know I looked for other SGA stuff but came up empty. It is sad that writers of trakkie's talent haven't written other stuff. But all the more reason to love the stuff we've got, eh?
