Why This Must Be Read: In SG-1 lore, the "Death of Daniel" has become something of a punchline, and really, can you blame people, considering how many times it's happened? That makes it hard to be touched by any "Daniel Cheats Death" story, because frankly, the guy's died more times than a Tom Green movie. But fear not! Sideburns really knows how to bring the angst, and she's certainly a champion of this kind of DCD™ story. This one does it better than most, and tugs at the heartstrings in a way that never fails to bring tears to this old cynic's eyes. There's the requisite physical whump/trauma here, yes, but what really works is the emotion-packed journey toward acceptance for Daniel and his team when they realize that this time, he really is going to die. From the rage, helplessness, fear, love, and desperation from every single character - even the ones responsible for Daniel's condition - and ultimately, joy - each emotional note rings true, and the reader rides the roller-coaster right along with the characters. This one picks you up, shakes you around, and doesn't let you go until the very last word.
I know this has already been recced in the Jack/Daniel category, but as far as Angst goes, this one ranks near the top of the list of classics, and fully deserves a mention here too.
