Why this must be read: The truth is, Sam didn't want Cassie to move in with her after Janet's death. This is one of the most heartbreaking stories I have read in the fandom, and an excellent character study of Samantha Carter. Very insightful look into Sam and Cassie's relationship with a small side exploration of Sam and Jack. This story is a remix version of the equally excellent Tether, which was recced here a while ago, but Karen T gives the story a completely different angle which twists the knife in your heart a little deeper.

I saw it as gen with some UST? I felt like the story was mostly about Sam and Cassie with a little Jack thrown in. It's kind of in between a bit IMO, and I don't feel comfortable categorizing it as het, so I put it in gen.

The fact that Jack and Sam had been in a relationship and it was still an issue between them ... really not Gen in my book. (If it had had only the mention of Pete, that would have been fine for me, as that was a canon relationship and not prominent in the story, at least as far as I got.) Thanks for adding the pairing note.

Well, the definition of gen is a bit iffy in my book. For example, if there's a really plotty action/adventure that's mostly gen but has some ship in it that is not the focus of the story but is still relevant, I'd call it gen. If the story is not about a ship but it mentions or deals with one, I still might call it gen. There definitely is a thin line between gen and het/slash sometimes I think, but that's totally why I had the pairing note to begin with to indicate it's not 100% pure gen :)
