Why this must be read: This fic, another epic from the Caffiends crew, while not truly a threesome, does showcase a beautiful and complicated relationship between Carson, a benefactor, Rodney, his companion, nearly poisoned to death as a young boy, and John, formerly the companion of Carson's brother Alec, and joint companion with Rodney once his ownership is transferred after Alec's death. Although the ultimate sexual and romantic pairing is between Rodney and John, the interplay between the three men is what really makes the story, John's fierce and predatory love of Rodney, Rodney's hopeful devotion to Carson, Carson's fatherly love towards both young men. While it is Rodney's feelings for Carson that are my own hallmark favorite of this fic, I can't say enough about how each man truly shines as his own personality, largely in character with their canon selves, and yet with personalities shaped and molded by the AU in which they are placed. Admittedly, I'm a sucker for Benefactor and similar fic, so your mileage may vary, but if this type of fic is your cuppa, Double Trouble will not disappoint.
