Why this must be read:
A really good mission fic that helps Daniel to realize that there are still reasons for him to stay on after Sha're's death in Forever and a Day (though the idea that Daniel would quit after Sha're died has always been a bit hard for me to believe. What about Skaara?). Denny delves into Daniel's emotions and illustrates to the reader how lost and useless Daniel feels now that the main reason for his joining the Stargate program is gone. It takes a mission that was supposed to be a very simple meet/greet and archeology trip that turns into a dangerous struggle for survival to make Daniel recognize the fact that the SGC and his team especially still needs him. His skills at languages, knowledge of mythology and history, and diplomacy skills are a vital component of SG-1. Throughout the fic, there's a wonderful sense of team dynamics that echoes so well with the TV show; I felt just like I was watching an episode of SG-1, just with an insight into what the characters are thinking at the same time. Definitely a wonderful follow-up to Forever and a Day that helps Daniel start to move on from Sha're's death and re-integrate with his friends and team.
