Why this must be read: The first week after the Colonel's death, Sam handled herself with more grace and equanimity than she would have thought possible.
When Jack is assassinated in front of Sam, Sam resolves to get to the bottom of his murder while dealing with a series of mysterious phone calls and political entanglements. I don't like reading character death that often because IMO it frequently isn't handled that well, and is just an excuse for an angstfest. However, Alli Snow's Fireflies is a brilliant exception to the above statement. I will never, ever be able to get this plotty, poignant, well written, sometimes creepy but always absolutely heartbreaking fic out of my head. There were definitely tears in my eyes by the end.
