Why this must be read: When it comes to h/c, this is my desert island fic. Rodney gets severely injured offworld, and the story focuses on his convalescence. A 75,000 word story about McKay recovering from a stomach wound... and there's not one redundant sentence. It's a well-rounded story with interesting subplots, rich background detail, and fantastic characterization, not just of McKay. I like his characterization all the more because he isn't himself for large parts of the story. This fic takes him apart and puts him back together in a meaningful way.
sidenote: I've seen this story sorted under Sheppard/McKay as well as gen - their relationship is a deep platonic friendship rather than romantic, though. Ultimately this story is all about friendship and team.

Date: 2010-01-02 05:07 pm (UTC)I think I've read Salt four times now. The last two times I was really only meaning to sort my fanfic printouts when I got sucked in again.
