Why This Must Be Read: An optimistic series of life with Sam & Janet (and their extended family). If one accepts that stargates and aliens are a part of everyday life, then this story takes us to a place where their relationship is normal, healthy and incredibly positive in a world that would have us believe otherwise.
The premise at the outset is that Sam and Janet must rely on each other (to survive) when problems arise at the new Beta site.

ExcerptThe evacuation was well under way; the 70 construction personnel were the first to leave, followed by all catering and administrative staff. Next to leave were the medical personnel, all except Janet who had volunteered to stay until the end in case she was needed. Finally all the scientists went. Sam had decided it was quicker and easier to disable all the computer systems herself. Anyway, they still had over five hours, she'd be finished in less than an hour. Much easier that way. "Janet, you head out, I'll be there before you know it," Sam had said.
"No way Sam, we leave together, you know that. Would you go before me?" Janet held her lover's gaze as she spoke.
There was no point arguing, Sam had only just managed to get Daniel to leave by persuading him that the General needed his update. "I'm sure it says Colonel somewhere on my uniform," she grumbled, unconsciously channeling O'Neill. "In that case, make yourself useful. We need to get all these backups through the Stargate," pointing to a growing pile of external hard drives. "Can you start getting them to the 'Gate?"
