Why This Must Be Read: Issue-focused fic can sometimes be a hard sell for me, but this is a painful and insightful look at the difficulties that women can face in hard-science careers through the eyes of a young Jeannie. It avoids preachiness and goes straight for a kick to the gut, as well as offering a somewhat different look at Jeannie's reasons for leaving academia than what we got in the show.
