Why This Must Be Read: It's really hard to choose a story by this author. This one is all about judging a book by its cover and how that just gets you in all kinds of trouble if the person you are judging is Daniel Jackson. ;) Fast paced and true to the guys personalities, it's fun. I like AUs mainly because they tend to give everyone a break. There is so much pressure on the characters in the show so normal life is fun to watch. Different pressures I know, but sometimes I like the weight of the planet gone from their shoulders.
"Um... hi."
Jack grinned, his amusement evident in his voice. "Good morning, 'Um... hi'. So, care to share your opinion on these multiple Ph-D geniuses gracing our little podunk town with their over-inflated egos while obfuscating us with their big words?"
"Oh, first off, I'm Daniel... sorry about that. I really think you're being a little unfair, Mr. O'Neill. It's an annual conference and it's not the intent to belittle anyone. The conference is held in a different place every year and host cities are selected on a number of different desirability factors. See, the organizers make a short list of possible locations where the following year's conference could be held and give out the list at the current year's registration table so that each attendee has all week to research and cast his or her vote. In fact," Daniel chuckled, "the organizers make it a bit of a challenge for the attendees to even figure out who the next year's selections are! They don't give the city name; instead they supply a city description in some obscure format to make it a contest of who can figure it out first."
Jack looked at his assistant, rolled his eyes and smirked. "So tell me, Daniel, you wouldn't happen to be one of the geeks, er, geniuses, would you?"
"That's not a politically correct, or even polite, term, Mr. O'Neill. I think-"
I had a lot of trouble choosing which of Jillie fics to rec. I flipped a coin (not really but it was hard to choose) between this and Flying Lessons which I also love be sure to check that out as well..
