Why This Must Be Read: While jogging through his neighborhood's park, Daniel is mugged, beaten, and raped.  The story element of rape is used often in SG-1 stories, but unlike many of those, this story makes the rape and Daniel's reactions to it its focus.  The author's straightforward writing style enhances the portrayal of Daniel's denial, his disconnectedness and his alienation from self in the aftermath, as well as the matter-of-fact friendship and support Jack provides.  Though I think use of the canonical rape of Daniel in Hathor would've added interesting layers to this story, regardless of that omission, the subject matter here is handled with sensitivity, thoughtfulness and insight that's relevant to Daniel's character at this point in his life, and the progression of the friendship into a pre-slash element between he and Jack is paced believably and meaningfully.

Author's Summary:  "Daniel gets whupped-upon (again) and has to wonder if it's worth it."
