Why This Must Be Read: Years after their breakup, Jack still turns to Sara when he's emotionally wounded, and Sara still welcomes him. To me this is a bit of a darker angle on the pairing -- an intriguing, subtly disturbing fic that touches on issues of enabling and co-dependency -- but it also reads as a bittersweet hurt/comfort story portraying a relationship of enduring support, and it's a compelling view of them, in either light or both.
About 770 words.

He reached for her then, chilled hand cupping her cheek and he leaned in and kissed her, cold lips moving gently, then more insistently and she opened her mouth to him just as she always opened her heart. The hand on the back of her neck was known and welcomed and it nearly broke her. The gesture was so Jack; the Jack of before and the Jack of now. Always her Jack, even when he wasn't.
