Why This Must Be Read:

For those of you not familiar with the works of Likethekoschka, I would like to introduce you to the Geeks and Goons Guides series. These stories tell the adventures (or mis-adventures) of John Sheppard and Rodney McKay (and all the other usual suspects from Atlantis) as they boldly go where no man ... one ... two ... geeks and goons have gone before.
In The Geek's Field Guide to Arachnids (the first story in the series) our dynamic duo ponders the phenomena of the human ring-toss, confronts a big robot spider, and overcomes stuck doors. All this and more, while armed with nothing more than a handgun, some epi-pens, Rodney's brain, and more snark than you can shake a stick at. I love Likethekoschka's John and Rodney and their internal dynamics. Honestly, this is a fun story that you really should give a try. The dialogue flows, the action is non-stop and the snark is fantastic.

Thus far, there are twelve Guides/stories in this series. You can go to the authors' website for the complete list. They are listed in reverse order (the first story of the series is actually number 12 in the list). This series is the work of two fantastic authors - Liketheriver and Koschka, individually whom you should also read.* 

I actually had a long debate on the wisdom of recommending this series. There are a lot more to this rec' than just one simple story, and for that I must apologize. But I truly love this series, and I wanted to share it with anyone who might not be aware of it's existence. These authors are amazing. And if you find yourself falling in love with their works and need to read more, no matter what the topic, then might I suggest visiting Liketheriver's recent LJ entries. She might be pimping something that her friend did that you might want to consider.

* A little more history - The Guides series actually grew out of Liketheriver's Dictionary Series and Koschka's Geeks and Goons series (which is different from the Geeks and Goons Guides series...yes, well, anyway...). Both these series are gen (or pre-slash, depending on the glasses you wear). There are random SMALL references/in-jokes in the Guides series to these two gen series. The authors have made a reference chart for those of us who keep saying "wait, I've read about this somewhere before...". It is not necessary for you to be familiar with any of these other stories to enjoy The Geek's Field Guide to Arachnids. But if you find yourself as compelled to know more about everything in the Guides series as I was, then you might want to visit these other two series, also.

Glad you're enjoying yourself. I totally understand about the dishes. When I first found the Guides series, I pretty much wrote off doing anything other than bond with my computer for about a week.
