Why This Must Be Read: Jinto asks to join the Marine Corps in the charming Fresh Recruit. I'd recommend this for John teasing the marines and calling Stackhouse 'Stacks' alone; the characterization of everyone from Lorne to Teyla is equally well written. I love the dry humor and how well the author captures John the military leader.

A snippet....

John and his team were returning from that rarest of all things, a mission that went perfectly well, when Chuck flagged him and Teyla down. John sighed and wondered what might have gone wrong while they were away but wouldn't require Rodney's attention as well. Most of the scenarios he could come up with involved the marines and their various 'interesting' downtime activities, but most of those wouldn't need Teyla.

"What's up, Chuck?" John asked.

Chuck gave John a mild and very polite annoyed look. "Major Lorne asked to see the two of you in your office once you cleared medical, sir."

"Tell me the guys haven't done something with one of zoology's goats again."

"Not as far as I know, sir."

"Sergeant Mehra needs to be talked down from castrating Novotny?"

"Not today, no."

"Botany problem?"

"I imagine it would be botany wanting you if that was the case."
