"Hey, Carter, about our last mission..." Jack didn't miss the sudden whiteness of her knuckles holding the last stick, but she kept her expression polite.

"Sir?" She finally stopped moving and focused on him when it didn't look like he was going to finish his sentence. Jack sighed and started fidgeting with a piece of kindling.

"I was out of line. Dramatically."

"Yes, sir."
