Why This Must Be Read: Velocity takes a fairly well known plot device - Rodney proposes a no-strings-attached sexual arrangement - and spins it into something unique and beautiful in a very believable way. A misunderstanding off-world lets us in on John's secret from the get-go and we get to watch as Rodney forms some conclusions about himself and slowly, unconsciously turns their arrangement into something else.
The sex scenes are hot and gorgeously constructed, but it's the emotional development that'll keep you glued to the story. Your heart will ache for pining!John trying so hard to play things the way he thinks Rodney wants them. It takes them fully half the fic to kiss, but in that moment your heart will melt, even if it does take the boys quite a bit longer to figure out what the kiss was trying to tell them. A must read for anyone who loves a slow build to the realization of what they really mean to each other.
