Why This Must Be Read: Following on the action of The Curse, Jack spirits a reluctant Daniel away to his mountain cabin in an effort to mend fences and repair the growing breach in their friendship that culminated in his throwing away that cellphone. His plans go awry, of course, leaving both he and Daniel injured and stranded on a mountainside with little hope of rescue. And what follows on that is a deft and satisfying blend of hurt, that's not too graphic yet tense and suspenseful, and comfort, that's not at all sappy but very in character, both in action and dialogue, with a little bit of the supernatural thrown in. Balanced in structure, content, and character, and with an easy flow, this story explores recent hurts and older, deeper ones that ultimately portray just why Daniel's friendship is unique in Jack's life.
Author's Summary: "A trip to the mountains becomes a battle for survival."
